All About Moldavite

Moldavite is an extremely powerful stone. It's technically a glass formation that holds intense cosmic powers. First timers have shared the physical reactions they have felt when encountering Moldavite. This occurrence is known as a Moldavite flush. People have reported feeling a heat sensation flood their body, dizziness, tingling at the point of contact, and a rush of energy. There is nothing to fear about the Moldavite flush. As you learn to harness its energy, this power can be a great reset for your physical and metaphysical being.  

Origin story

Moldavite has a truly out of this world origin story. Formed when a meteorite struck earth roughly 14.8 million years ago on the Bohemian plateau. The force of this meteorite colliding with molten earth sent a mix of earthly and extraterrestrial material back up into the atmosphere. When it returned to earth and cooled, it left behind massive fields of moldavite. In the stone age, this stone was used to create tools and arrowheads. A town in Austria discovered a figurine in the shape of women, creating the story of Moldavites power with fertility. Over the years, Moldavite has made its appearance as farmers tilled their land, as weather conditions carved away the earth, and recently found with intention through the mining process in which Moldavite is sifted out of the surrounding earth. 

Where It’s Found

Moldavite is primarily found in the Czech Republic but can also be found in parts of Slovakia, Germany, and Austria. The region of Bohemia in the Czech Republic seems to have the highest concentration of Moldavite. There is currently one active mine and is estimated to only have 10 years worth of material left. While the active mine is not the only place left to find it, Moldavite is considered extremely rare. 

 

What it looks like

Moldavite is a tektite, which is a form of glass and other sediment. Tektites are found in strewn fields. In the case of Moldavite, these strewn fields can be up to 280 miles away from the impact crater where the asteroid landed.

The violent creation process leaves us with a gorgeous range of green shades. Moldavite is typically smaller in size but varies depending on which strewn field it is found in. What Moldavite lacks in size it makes up for in unique shapes. In its natural state it can be found in spheres, disks, drops, even dumbbells. The intense pressure blast and delayed cooling allowed the material to stretch and shift prior to hardening, resulting in unique and beautiful presentations. It is normal to have cracking or separation on the surface of Moldavite. 

Real or Fake?

If your moldavite is symmetrical or circular, or large there is a good chance it’s fake. Moldavite's elongated ridges are a tell tale sign of its authenticity. Formed as the molten material stretched and cooled on its journey back down to earth, the irregularities and elongated striations had a chance to form. Moldavite is usually very small and its shapes are unique and imperfect. Real moldavite will always have a green hue to it. Even though Moldavite is glass, it is not typically translucent in its natural form. Once shaped and polished, it can have a glassy appearance. Moldavite may also have bubbles or inclusion of other sediment that were trapped during the cooling process. These inclusion’s add to its value.  Moldavite is very rare and its price should reflect that.

Moldavite is truly otherworldly. It links the power of mother earth with extraterrestrial energy allowing us to take our metaphysical connections to a higher level. It is used to harness psychic abilities and link you to past lessons and spiritual guides. There can be a powerful physical reaction when doing metaphysical work with Moldavite. How To Use

One of the most popular ways to use Moldavite is to wear it. A necklace is a great way to keep Moldavite near your heart chakra. Rings and earrings are beneficial as well. Many experienced users set an intention with their Moldavite stone and keeping it close to the physical body encourages alignment with the intention. 

Meditation allows the mind to feel total peace and tranquility. Using Moldavite invites the meditative state to become even more transformative by opening the portals to deeper and higher thought. 

Releasing trauma through writing, journaling, and other releases can be amplified by keeping Moldavite nearby. 

How To Care For It

Moldavite can be cleansed by rinsing with water. Energy cleansing can be done by setting it under the moonlight or sunlight, using sound bowls, or smudging.
